Happy Monday Painters! I have been very impressed with your still life submissions. Many of you have done great work from home. This week we will begin a new project that should take us through the end of the school year. We will start with planning and writing, and then move onto sketching and creating. Typically at this time in the semester, we would be working on a final project. This is sort of like that, but less intense. I am stretching out our work so as not to overwhelm you guys. Also, media on this project will be open. You will be able to draw, paint, sculpt, or do digital artwork.
As we have discussed before, art is often a reflection of culture and current events. We are experiencing a very strange time that many of us have not likely experienced before. I would like to ask you all, as artists, to think about how you can describe current events. There are many aspects of it to consider... medical, scientific, social, emotional, and economic. How is coronavirus impacting you or your family? How is social distancing impacting you? Some people are happy to stay home and be alone, while others may find it difficult not to socialize or be around other people. Maybe you are experiencing fear. Maybe you are fascinated with the science behind it, or even just the way the virus looks. There are no wrong answers. For this weeks assignment, I want you to list ways in which you are viewing, thinking, and feeling about current events. Consider what changes have occurred, and the impact it has had on you or your family. Complete the assignment by uploading a document or photo of your handwritten brainstorming on Schoology by Friday.
